Re-rendered, not converted

15 animated films whose 3D was computed rather than either photographed or added afterwards. The original models were still there, so a second virtual camera was placed beside the first and the whole film was rendered again.

This is the hardest call in the vocabulary and the one experts differ on. Nothing was shot in stereo, so it is not native. Nothing was cut into layers and displaced, so it is not converted either — and calling it conversion understates it, because the depth is real geometry rather than an estimate of it. The definition is here, with the rest of the vocabulary.

15 of 1,097. The number is small because the technique needs the original production files to still exist and still open, which for a film of any age is the rarest condition on this site.
