3DIQ

About

What this is

3DIQ is a public record of every film released in 3D: 1,097 of them so far, from 1939 to 2026, with how the 3D was made, which formats each one exists in, and whether you can still watch it.

It is published by IQ Labs, and it is not the other 3DIQ. There is a staffing company trading under the same four letters. This one is about films.

Why it exists

The 3D disc stopped coming. Studios wound down Blu-ray 3D across the late 2010s, the services that carried 3D dropped it, and what was left scattered across out-of-print pressings, one storefront and a handful of forum posts. Nobody was keeping the list.

The question that sends most people here — was this shot in 3D, or converted afterwards? — has no complete answer anywhere else. So: one page per film, every fact carrying the address it came from and the date somebody read it. The long version is here.

How it is sourced

No fact reaches a page without a source URL. That is enforced in the database rather than left to good intentions: the column is NOT NULL with a scheme check, so a fact without an address cannot be stored, never mind published.

This is not a survey, though. The catalogue is the union of a handful of published lists, and a film is here because one of them says it was released in 3D — so a film missing from it is a film those lists do not carry rather than a film that was never in 3D. What that covers, and what it cannot.

A claim that publishers can disagree about — how the 3D was made, who converted it, whether a disc exists — needs two independent publishers before it counts as settled. Two machines reading the same Wikipedia row are one source, not two. That rule exists because it was broken once: a single research pass published a Blu-ray that has never been pressed, and nothing in the site could tell that page from a real one.

Not every claim is that kind. Whether Apple sells a film in 3D is answered by Apple and nobody else, and which TMDB record a film matches is a question about the match rather than about 3D. Those are checked differently, and /method says how, because one word over three meanings is how a rule quietly stops being one.

Research that has been done and not yet corroborated is published as research, named and linked, on the page for exactly that: currently 250 films. It stays somebody else’s reading until a second source agrees, and the page says so.

Where two sources disagree, this catalogue prints the disagreement rather than choosing between them. Both are linked. The reader decides, or nobody does until a third source settles it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it is worth more to this record than anything that is right. Corrections go to IQ Labs. One that arrives with the page you read it on can be acted on the same day; one without a source joins the queue behind everything else waiting for a second reading.
